Amsterdam Lab

The Amsterdam IBM campus is located at a stone's throw from the Amsterdam airport (Schiphol), which serves as a major junction to the European continent. The headquarters of most major Dutch companies are located around the airport of Amsterdam, the dynamic Dutch capital, situated about 15 km away from the airport.

The Netherlands is a country strongly represented in the transport, distribution and logistic industries. These are the areas where the IBM laboratory maintains excellent relationships with their business partners.

Amsterdam itself is a vibrant city which fosters all kinds of cultural and social life. Two main universities are located in the city between a huge number of museums and cultural institutes, and are surrounded by the magical canals, restaurants, cafes, and other entertainment place. Other major universities are located in Delft, Rotterdam, Leiden, Utrecht, Enschede and Wageningen.

The IBM Global Services innovation team is part of the Application Management Services unit. This unit is responsible for application solutions for international and Dutch customers, developments and management of a number of key IBM world-wide internal applications in the finance, logistics, customer relations, and human resource areas, as well as e-business hosting. The main technology areas include: Java™ and Lotus® Notes® development, use of the IBM WebSphere® environment and mobile computing - all connected to database systems residing on midrange Unix®, Linux, and classic mainframe systems.

In 2002, IBM's Application Management Services became the first IT organisation in the Netherlands to achieve Level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model for Software (SW-CMM), the global standard for qualifying software services. And the organisation continues to improve itself; it aims for CMMi Level 5 by the end of this year.
