Ed - Dublin Technical Intern Summer 2006

Ed - Dublin 2006

Eddie Mackle is an IT Specialist with the Global Web Architecture (GWA) team based on the IBM Technology Campus.

Eddie first came to IBM as a participant in the 2006 Extreme Blue Program for students. His team created Podsmart, a new way of reading your emails, checking your digital diary, and perusing your favourite online news feeds all on the move. It works by translating the information into audio files to be listened to on a digital player or mobile phone. IBM is planning to incorporate the technology into the latest edition Lotus Notes 8. Several patents were filed by Eddie and his team mates encompassing several areas in the project.

After taking a couple of months out to travel and do volunteering work in Uganda, Eddie joined the GWA as a graduate in October 2006. On a day-to-day basis, Eddie works in the Deployments team in GWA. He deploys web applications in the GWA/AHE environment, and works on various applications components including WebSphere, DB2 and MQ Series.

While crossing Hal'penny Bridge in March 2004, Eddie dived into the River Liffey, rescued and subsequently revived a girl who had fallen in. In recognition of this courageous act, Eddie was presented with a medal for bravery at a ceremony in Leinster House on May 10th, 2007. The award was given to Eddie from Dr. Rory O'Hanlon, Speaker of Dail Eireann. Well done, Eddie.
